Two New Projects: Alchemistry and VWSCC
We are delighted to announce two additions to our project ecosystem: Alchemistry and the Virtual Winter School on Computational Chemistry (VWSCC).
Alchemistry organizes the International Workshop on Free Energy Methods in Drug Design, an annual gathering of experts in free energy calculations from around the world. This storied event, hosted since 2010, has been a mainstay in our culture for many years. Read through that history here.
Assisting in facilitating this workshop is a huge honor, and 2025 is shaping up to be another wonderful gathering! Alchemistry's next workshop is scheduled for May 6th to the 8th, 2025, at the Merck Research Laboratories in Boston, MA. Registration is now open; you can reserve your spot via this link. VWSCC is a global online event that provides a platform for computational chemists to share knowledge, discuss cutting-edge research, and engage in interactive workshops. The 11th edition of VWSCC took place in January 2025, featuring expert lectures, workshops, panels, and research presentations.
Cate Anstöter, one of the premier organizers of VWSCC, shared:
“The mission statement of the Virtual Winter School of Computational Chemistry is to remove traditional barriers that are associated with attending leading research conferences (i.e. childcare, visas, funding), providing an online, free School that delivers pedagogical talks from leaders in the field, cutting-edge advances from emerging leaders, and workshops from computational chemistry packages. Talks and workshops are recorded to account for the international nature of the participants, and we have an archive of talks from the past decade spanning emergent leads to a Nobel Prize winner. The VWSCC delivered the 11th edition in January 2025, with over 1,600 registrations and 260 in-person attendees. We are super excited to partner with OMSF!”
Learn more about VWSCC on their website: winterschool.cc. There, you can find archived talks from previous editions and testimonials.
These initiatives arrive at a crucial time when collaborative research and community engagement are essential for scientific progress. By integrating Alchemistry and VWSCC into the OMSF ecosystem, we aim to support the molecular modeling community by supporting these opportunities for learning and networking.
